About Newtown (Golden Plains - Vic.)
Newtown is a rural locality on Pitfield Road in the Golden Plains Shire of Victoria, about 144 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. The Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail passes through the district, crossing the Woady Yaloak River on the Nimmons Trestle Bridge, one of the largest timber trestle bridges in Victoria. A local post office operated from 1868 until 1957.
