About Staffordshire Reef
Staffordshire Reef is a former gold mining town in the Golden Plains Shire, about 23 kilometres south-east of Ballarat. Miners from Staffordshire, England reportedly discovered the gold-bearing reef around 1858, and at its peak the town had five hotels and several quartz-crushing mills. Today the locality retains a few buildings, a cemetery and lies near the Enfield State Forest.
