About Ulverstone
Ulverstone is a town on the mouth of the River Leven on Tasmania's north coast, 21 km west of Devonport on the Bass Highway. Named in 1854 after Ulverston in England, a town at the estuary of a river of the same name, it grew from a timber industry that supplied Melbourne during the 1850s gold rush before turning to agriculture. The town's landmark is the Shrine of Remembrance, a 1954 clock-tower war memorial.
