About Abbotsham

Abbotsham is a rural locality in the Central Coast area of north-west Tasmania, about 11 km south of Ulverstone on the Castra Road beside Buttons Creek. The name was in use by 1877 and is said to honour Major Edward Abbott, a district magistrate. The locality grew as a church-based community, with several church halls making it a popular social meeting place in the early 20th century, and a post office served the district from 1889 to 1966.
