About South Nietta
South Nietta is a sparsely settled rural locality in north-west Tasmania, about 38 km south of Ulverstone, where the Lea and Wilmot rivers form part of its eastern boundary. It lies within the Nietta district, a once heavily forested area settled from the 1880s and opened up by a narrow-gauge timber railway from Ulverstone that ran until 1955, and is a short drive from the Leven Canyon Regional Reserve and its dramatic river gorge.
