About Poona
Poona is a small coastal town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 35.6 kilometres south-east of Maryborough on the Great Sandy Strait. The locality is bounded to the north and east by the strait and to the south by Poona Creek, with Poona Point forming a headland at the north-eastern corner. The name is believed to be Aboriginal in origin and appears on an 1878 map, with the area now characterised by low-density coastal residential development and nature conservation land.
