About Point Vernon
Point Vernon is a coastal suburb in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated on a peninsula extending into Hervey Bay approximately 35 kilometres north of Maryborough. Named in 1861 by harbour master Richard Bingham Sheridan after Captain Charles Egerton Harcourt-Vernon of HMS Cordelia, which conveyed Queensland's first governor George Bowen to the colony in 1859, the suburb features the largest rocky promontory on the coast between Noosa and Bundaberg.
