About Fairymead
Fairymead is a coastal locality in the Bundaberg Region of Queensland, situated about 10 kilometres north of Bundaberg CBD along the Burnett River estuary. It was established in 1878 as the Fairymead Sugar Plantation by the Young brothers, who built one of Bundaberg's earliest sugar mills. The heritage-listed Fairymead House, designed in the Indian bungalow style, has been relocated to the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. The predominant land use today is growing sugarcane, supported by an extensive cane tramway network.
