About Heatley
Heatley is a residential suburb approximately eight kilometres southwest of Townsville's central business district in Queensland, Australia. Formally named in 1967, it honours William J. Heatley, mayor of Townsville from 1927 to 1933. Situated on the traditional lands of the Wulgurukaba people, the suburb developed during the post-war period as part of Townsville's urban expansion. Notable features include Heatley Park, with its community centre and swimming pool, and educational institutions such as Heatley Secondary College and Heatley State School, the latter opened in 1971 as one of Queensland's pioneering open-plan primary schools.
