About Garbutt
Garbutt is a suburb of Townsville in the City of Townsville, Queensland, located 5.9 kilometres west of the Townsville central business district. Named after the railway siding originally called Garbutts Siding after Charles Overend Garbutt, a Queensland pastoralist whose sons settled in Townsville, the suburb is home to Townsville International Airport and RAAF Base Townsville established on 15 October 1940. The US Army Air Corps and United States Army Air Forces were based in the area during World War II. The RAAF Townsville Aviation Heritage Centre at 487 Ingham Road preserves the military aviation heritage of North Queensland. The North Coast railway line passes through with Garbutt railway station.
