About Douglas (Townsville - Qld)
Douglas is a mainly residential suburb about 11 km southwest of Townsville's CBD, bounded to the north by the Ross River. It is notable as the home of James Cook University and Townsville University Hospital, making it an education and health hub for the region. Named in 1968 after former Supreme Court judge Robert Johnstone Douglas, the suburb is also known for the Douglas Arterial Road, the first stage of the Townsville Ring Road.
