About Deeragun

Deeragun is a town and outer western suburb of Townsville, Queensland, situated approximately 16.5 kilometres west of the Townsville CBD along the Bruce Highway, west of the Bohle River. The origin of the name is unrecorded. Developed in the 1990s as a satellite urban area, the suburb is laid out around the historic Bohlevale State School (1911) and the Nightjar railway station on the North Coast line, with much of the original housing built by the Queensland Housing Commission. The area is primarily residential and rural-residential, characterised by the hill at Innes Estate and the Saunders Creek nature strip. Facilities include the Woodlands Village Shopping Centre, a police station, community hall, and schools such as St Anthony's Catholic College and Northern Beaches State High School. The Wulgurukaba people are the traditional custodians of the land.
