About Murphys Creek (Qld)
Murphys Creek is a rural town and locality in the Lockyer Valley Region of Queensland, about 21 kilometres north-east of Toowoomba at the foot of the Great Dividing Range. The settlement was originally known as Murphy's Waterhole, named after convict Peter Murphy who accompanied Patrick Leslie on his 1841-42 exploration of the Darling Downs. The railway station opened in 1867 and the town retains historic landmarks including Jessie's Cottage and the Murphys Creek Tavern.
