About Woombye
Woombye is a town in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Queensland, originally known as Cobb's Camp after its role as a Cobb & Co staging depot at the halfway point on the Brisbane to Gympie road established in 1868. The name derives from the Kabi word wombai, referring to the black myrtle tree. The town became a rail centre from 1891 and is home to the landmark Big Pineapple, opened in 1971.
