About Dicky Beach
Dicky Beach is a beachside suburb of Caloundra in the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland, located three kilometres north of Caloundra and 96 kilometres north of Brisbane. The area was named after the iron steamboat SS Dicky which ran aground during heavy seas on 12 February 1893. The ship was used as a venue for dances until a kerosene lamp overturned and burned it out. The propeller was removed in 1963 and used on a memorial cairn. In 2014 the deteriorating wreck was relocated from the beach due to hazards for swimmers. The Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club was awarded DHL Queensland Surf Life Saving Club of the Year in 2009.
