About Winston
Winston is a suburb of Mount Isa in north-west Queensland, on the eastern, townside bank of the Leichhardt River, about two kilometres north of the city centre. It was named by the Queensland Place Names Board on 1 September 1973 and reclassified from a locality to a suburb in 2001. The suburb fronts the river with caravan parks, and its houses sit within the mining city whose copper, lead, zinc and silver operations drive the local economy. There are no schools in Winston; the nearest primary schools are in the neighbouring suburbs of Sunset and the Mount Isa CBD.
