About Sunset

Sunset is a residential suburb of Mount Isa in the City of Mount Isa, Queensland, located 3.1 kilometres northeast of the Mount Isa central business district. Named because it sits on the western side of a slope with views of the sunset, the suburb is on the townside east of the Leichhardt River which divides Mount Isa into mineside and townside. Sunset State School opened on 30 January 1968 and the Mount Isa Flexible Learning Centre, a Catholic secondary school providing alternative education, is also located in the suburb. The western part of the suburb is flat at approximately 360 metres above sea level while the eastern part rises to two local prominences at approximately 420 metres. Parks include Bill Macdonald Park, Charlie Steene Park and Sunset Park, and Sunset Stadium is a key sporting venue.
