About Selwyn (Qld)
Selwyn is a rural locality in the Shire of Cloncurry, in north-west Queensland, about 100 km south of Cloncurry, in the Selwyn Range crossed by the Burke and Wills expedition in 1861. Copper and gold were found at nearby Mount Elliott in 1889, and the town grew to around 1,500 people after the railway arrived in 1910, but it is now abandoned. Phosphate mining continues at Phosphate Hill in the south-west.
