About Mount Mulligan

Mount Mulligan is a former mining town and now a rural locality in the Shire of Mareeba, Queensland, about 160 kilometres west of Cairns. A coal mine operated there from the early 1900s until 1957, and the town is remembered for the Mount Mulligan mine disaster of 19 September 1921, when a series of explosions killed all 75 men working underground, Queensland's worst mining disaster. The mine ruins and the graves of the miners remain at the site.
