About Mornington (Qld)
Mornington is a townside suburb of Mount Isa in the City of Mount Isa, Queensland, located 1.4 kilometres south-southeast of the Mount Isa central business district. Named on 1 September 1973 by the Queensland Place Names Board, the suburb was originally a locality before becoming a suburb on 16 March 2001. The Leichhardt River flows north-south through Mount Isa dividing suburbs into mineside to the west and townside to the east with Mornington on the townside. The Mount Isa Base Hospital at 30 Camooweal Street is the major employer and includes the Centre for Rural and Remote Health operated by James Cook University. Heritage-listed sites include the Underground Hospital and Tent House, notable relics of Mount Isa's early mining history.
