About Mount Isa City

Mount Isa City is the central suburb and central business district of the mining city of Mount Isa in north-west Queensland, on the town side of the Leichhardt River opposite the mine workings. It is named after the nearby peak, which took its name when prospector John Campbell Miles pegged a mineral lease there in 1923; the name is thought to be a corruption of Mount Ida in Western Australia.
