About Happy Valley (Qld)

Happy Valley is a suburb of Mount Isa in the Queensland Outback, located 2.9 kilometres south-southwest of the Mount Isa CBD. It is a mineside suburb west of the Leichhardt River, and its name was given ironically by residents during the Great Depression shantytown era for mine workers. The suburb retains a strong community identity tied to the mining industry, with the Isa Mines State School opening in 1932 and renamed Happy Valley State School in 1971.
