About Silkstone
Silkstone is a residential suburb three kilometres east of central Ipswich, Queensland. Development followed the earlier settlement of Newtown to the west, with the area taking its name from Silkstone in Yorkshire, England. The suburb's state school originated in 1882 as Newtown State School before relocating and being renamed in 1915, and was once the largest primary school in Queensland.
