About Redbank (Qld)
Redbank is a residential and industrial suburb in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, located 12 kilometres east of the Ipswich CBD and 28 kilometres south-west of Brisbane. Named after Major Edmund Lockyer's boat exploration of the Brisbane River, the area was settled by farmers in the late 1850s. The Redbank Railway Workshops have been operating since 1958 and the suburb is served by Redbank railway station on the Ipswich and Rosewood line. During World War II, a military camp housed up to 6,000 Australian and American troops. Redbank Plaza is a major shopping centre and the suburb is home to the Pan Pacific Peace Gardens.
