About Moggill
Moggill is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, located approximately 22 kilometres southwest of the Brisbane CBD. Bounded on three sides by the Brisbane River, its name derives from "Magil" in the Yuggera language, meaning water dragon. First recorded by explorer John Oxley in 1823 as "Termination Plains," the area supported early pastoral and coal mining operations. Moggill State School opened in 1866, and the Moggill Ferry, a tolled cable ferry, has connected the suburb across the Brisbane River since the late nineteenth century. The suburb retains a semi-rural character with residential acreages and remaining farms.
