About North Ipswich
North Ipswich lies in a U-shaped bend of the Bremer River, immediately north of central Ipswich, Queensland. Named for its position relative to Ipswich's centre, the suburb is the birthplace of Queensland Rail, with workshops established in 1864 as the state's first and oldest operating railway facility. Originally scrubland, the area became a major industrial site and home to generations of railway workers. Heritage features include workers' cottages, the Workshops Rail Museum, and Browns Park. The Bremer River forms the southern boundary, with the Warrego Highway crossing the northern section, and Raymonds Hill rising to 63 metres near the centre.
