About Karana Downs
Karana Downs is a residential suburb on the Brisbane River, about 23 kilometres southwest of the city centre. Developed from parts of Kholo and Mount Crosby in 1973 as a planned acreage estate around a golf course, the name may derive from an Aboriginal word meaning quiet place. The community successfully lobbied to transfer from Ipswich City Council to Brisbane City Council in 2000.
