About Bonogin

Bonogin is a rural hinterland locality in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, situated approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Surfers Paradise and 81 kilometres from Brisbane. The locality's name is speculated to derive from the Aboriginal word "Boonoo," meaning red bloodwood. European settlement began in the 1870s, with early industries centred on timber cutting, dairying, and banana cultivation. Bonogin is characterised by rolling hills, expansive forests, and Bonogin Creek, a tributary of Mudgeeraba Creek flowing through the valley. The area encompasses the 732-hectare Bonogin Conservation Area, which adjoins Springbrook National Park and supports native wildlife including the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo. During the 1980s, former farm blocks were subdivided for acreage residential development.
