About Koongal

Koongal is a residential suburb of Rockhampton, Queensland, situated three kilometres northeast of the city centre on the Fitzroy River's northern bank. Its name derives from Aboriginal words most probably referring to a bora ring. Thozet Creek traverses the suburb, which retains a connection to French-Australian botanist Anthelme Thozet, whose garden "Muellerville" occupied much of the area from the 1860s. Thozet's gravesite was rediscovered in Norris Park in 2010, and the suburb's northern boundary adjoins Mount Archer National Park.
