About Kawana

Kawana is a suburb of Rockhampton in the Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia, located approximately 5.5 kilometres north of the Rockhampton central business district. The suburb is bordered by the Fitzroy River to the west, Limestone Creek to the north, Yaamba Road to the east, and Richardson Road to the south. Previously known as Splitters Creek and Glenmore in its rural period, the area was formally named Kawana, an Aboriginal word of unidentified dialect meaning "wildflowers." A barrage constructed across the Fitzroy River at Splitters Creek in 1970 secured a freshwater supply for Rockhampton's expanding northern suburbs. The North Coast railway line traverses the suburb, and notable features include the Indoor Sports Arena and the Capricorn Country Club golf course.
