About Boolburra

Boolburra is a remote rural locality in the Central Highlands Region of Queensland, located about 91 kilometres southwest of Rockhampton and 702 kilometres from Brisbane. Bounded by the Fitzroy River to the north, the Gogango Range to the east, the Capricorn Highway to the south, and the Dawson River to the west, the landscape features open grazing country typical of Central Queensland with scattered eucalypt woodland. A provisional school opened in 1874 and schoolmaster Patrick Murtagh taught for 30 years while running a 160-acre farm, and the Central Western railway line crosses the Dawson River between Boolburra and Duaringa with three railway stations, though the town laid out north of the railway station has largely disappeared.
