About Newell

Newell is a coastal town and rural locality in the Shire of Douglas, Queensland, about 66 km north of Cairns, on the Coral Sea coast. Most of the town sits within two streets of the beach, with the surrounding low-lying land given over to sugarcane, crushed at the Mossman Sugar Mill. The town is named after John Newell, a prominent north Queensland businessman and politician.
