About Cooya Beach

Cooya Beach is a coastal town in the Shire of Douglas in tropical north Queensland, situated approximately 60 kilometres north of Cairns on the coast near the Mossman River mouth. The town is on the traditional lands of the Kuku-Yalanji people, whose name for the area is Kuyu Kuyu, and the community includes a significant Indigenous population engaged in traditional cultural activities and tourism. Cooya Beach sits between the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, in a region of outstanding natural beauty.
