About Mossman

Mossman is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Douglas in far north Queensland, serving as the shire administrative centre. Sugar cane is the main industry, processed at the Mossman Central Mill, which crushed its first cane in August 1897 and remains the most northerly sugar mill in Australia. A network of cane tramways carries harvested cane to the mill. Mossman Gorge, with its Indigenous community, lies about 1.5 kilometres from the town.
