About Miallo
Miallo is a rural locality in the Shire of Douglas, about six kilometres north of Mossman and 81 kilometres north-west of Cairns. The name is Aboriginal in origin, meaning wild country, and the flat farming land surrounding Mount Somerset supports sugarcane and tropical fruit. A cane tramway system delivers cane to the Mossman sugar mill, and Miallo State School serves the local community.
