About Bonnie Doon (Qld)
Bonnie Doon is a coastal rural locality in the Shire of Douglas of Far North Queensland, situated approximately 3.6 kilometres north-east of Mossman and 73 kilometres north-west of Cairns. Bounded to the north by the Mossman River, to the east by the Coral Sea and to the south by the Captain Cook Highway, the area was first selected by William Henry Buchanan in 1878. The locality is notable as the site of the 1886 murder of William Thompson, which resulted in the only hanging of a woman in Queensland history.
