About Mossman Gorge
Mossman Gorge is a rural locality in the Shire of Douglas in far north Queensland, on the traditional country of the Kuku Yalanji people, whose name for it is Jinkalmu. It is named for the gorge where the Mossman River cuts through the Daintree National Park, and its Mossman Gorge Centre, run by the Kuku Yalanji, is the entry point for rainforest walks across a suspension bridge over the river. The area was the site of an Aboriginal mission founded in 1916, and the surrounding lowland rainforest is rich in wildlife, from the Ulysses butterfly to more than 400 species of birds.
