About Barron
Barron is a predominantly agricultural suburb on the Barron River floodplain in the Cairns Region, about 11 kilometres northwest of Cairns CBD. The flat, low-lying land is largely given over to sugarcane farming, served by a network of cane tramways heading to the Mulgrave Sugar Mill. The suburb is bounded by the Captain Cook Highway and neighbours Freshwater, whose railway station is a popular departure point for the Kuranda Scenic Railway.
