About Indooroopilly
Indooroopilly is a riverside suburb in Brisbane, Queensland, situated 7.8 kilometres south-west of the CBD. Its name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "gully of the leeches" or "gully of running water". Connected to Chelmer by four bridges including the heritage-listed Walter Taylor Bridge and Albert Bridge, the suburb is a major commercial centre with western Brisbane's largest shopping precinct. Indooroopilly encompasses Long Pocket, a river-bound promontory, and is home to the Indooroopilly Golf Club and a flying fox colony on Indooroopilly Island.
