About Graceville

Graceville is a residential suburb located approximately 7.8 kilometres south-west of the Brisbane CBD, bordered by the Brisbane River to the north-east and west and Oxley Creek to the east. The suburb was named after Grace Grimes, daughter of Samuel Grimes, the local member for Oxley, when the Queensland Railways Department named its railway station in 1875. Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, with land used for grazing and crop farming, and growth accelerated following the opening of the Brisbane to Ipswich railway line. Graceville is predominantly residential, featuring Queenslander-style houses, and is centred on its railway station on the Ipswich line. Notable features include Graceville Memorial Park with its heritage-listed war memorial and grandstand, the Regal Twin Cinema established in 1923, and riverside parklands at the confluence of the Brisbane River and Oxley Creek.
