About Chelmer
Chelmer is a prestigious riverside suburb on the south side of a bend in the Brisbane River, opposite Indooroopilly and 8 kilometres south-west of central Brisbane. Originally known as Boyland's Pocket after Thomas Boyland who grazed cattle there in the 1840s, it was connected to Brisbane by rail in 1876. The suburb is home to heritage-listed Laurel Avenue, voted Brisbane's best street in 1999, and the Walter Taylor Bridge, opened in 1936 to replace the ferry service to Indooroopilly.
