About Corinda

Corinda is an inner south-western suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, situated approximately 9 kilometres from the central business district. The suburb takes its name from its railway station, which was likely named after a local pastoral station owned by Sir Arthur Palmer, himself named after his Corinda station near Aramac in central-western Queensland. First settled in the 1860s as a farming community, Corinda retains heritage-listed landmarks including Francis Lookout, a hilltop cemetery and parkland established by pioneer settler Arthur Morley Francis in 1862 with panoramic views toward Mount Coot-tha. The suburb is bounded by the Brisbane River to the west and Oxley Creek to the east, with hilly terrain rising sharply from the river. Notable institutions include Corinda State High School, St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School, and the heritage-listed Corinda Library, originally the School of Arts hall built in 1895. The Corinda railway station on the Ipswich and Springfield lines provides regular commuter services to the city.
