About Seventeen Mile Rocks

Seventeen Mile Rocks is a residential suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located 16 kilometres south-west of the Brisbane CBD on the Brisbane River. Named after rocks in the river that marked 17 miles from the river mouth, noted by John Oxley on 3 December 1823, the rocks ran diagonally across the river and were partially removed in the 1860s for navigation, with the remainder removed between 1960 and 1966. Rocks Riverside Park is one of Brisbane's largest riverside parks with walking and cycling tracks, a climbing web and picnic areas.
