About Carindale

Carindale is a suburb of south-east Brisbane, about 13 km from the city centre on the south side of Bulimba Creek. The name, first used for a housing estate developed in 1976, combines Carin from the neighbouring suburb Carina with dale, meaning valley, and became the suburb's official name when it separated from Belmont in 1980. The site of a 19th-century fellmongery and wool scour is now occupied by Westfield Carindale, which opened in 1979 as Brisbane's largest shopping centre.
