About Virginia (Qld)
Virginia is a northern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located 14.8 kilometres by road from the Brisbane central business district. Thought to have been named after the US state of Virginia, the area was originally farmlands until the opening of the North Coast railway line in 1888 attracted industrial development including brick works and pipe works. Virginia State School opened in 1920 and is heritage-listed at 1690 Sandgate Road. The suburb contains a linear park along Downfall Creek, multiple recreation reserves and two dog parks. Two railway lines run through Virginia with stations at Virginia and Bindha providing services to the CBD, Redcliffe Peninsula and Shorncliffe.
