About Banyo
Banyo is a suburb in northern Brisbane, on the Shorncliffe railway line. Settled by Europeans in 1849, the area was first known as Clapham Junction and adopted the name Banyo in 1897, a Turrbal word meaning hill or ridge. The hill it was named after was quarried away to help build Eagle Farm Airport during World War II. Banyo is a mix of residential and industrial development, boosted by its proximity to Brisbane Airport and the Port of Brisbane, and is home to the Australian Catholic University's Brisbane campus.
