About Applethorpe
Applethorpe is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region of Queensland, situated on the New England Highway approximately 5 kilometres north of Stanthorpe in the Granite Belt region at an elevation of 872 metres. Originally called Roessler after an early German settler, the name was changed to Applethorpe in 1915 during World War I anti-German sentiment, reflecting the apple orchards in the district. The area is well known for apple production and often records the lowest temperatures in Queensland.
