About Lake Coogee
Lake Coogee is a suburb in the City of Cockburn, Western Australia, about 24 kilometres south of Perth. Created in March 2020 from part of the former suburb of Munster, it is named after the saline Lake Coogee within its boundaries, formed roughly 10,000 years ago and part of Beeliar Regional Park. The lake's Noongar name, Kou-Gee, meaning "body of water", was recorded by surveyor Thomas Watson in 1841. European settlers originally called it Lake Munster, after Prince William, Earl of Munster. The area holds Aboriginal mythological significance.
