About Yangebup
Yangebup is a southern suburb of Perth, about 26 km from the CBD in the City of Cockburn. The name derives from the Noongar word for bullrush, recorded as early as 1841, and the suburb was gazetted in 1977. Known for Yangebup Lake, a 77-hectare freshwater wetland forming part of Beeliar Regional Park that holds Aboriginal cultural significance, it was historically important for Gondwana biogeographical research with notable freshwater sponge and crustacean discoveries in the 1920s.
