Broadwater is a coastal suburb of the Western Australian city of Busselton, situated approximately six kilometres northwest of the city centre along the southern shore of Geographe Bay. The locality was gazetted in 1897, originally encompassing the area now known as Abbey, and takes its name from the broad, sheltered waters of the bay. The area has a long history of European settlement, with Old Broadwater Farm featuring a stone homestead constructed from 1846 on land associated with the Rose family. The Wadandi people are the traditional custodians of the land. Broadwater's foreshore comprises low sandy beaches backed by dune systems and peppermint woodland that provides habitat for the vulnerable western ringtail possum. A heritage-listed drive-in cinema operated on Bussell Highway from 1960 until 2015. Today the suburb is a popular tourist destination, with holiday resorts, caravan parks, and beachfront accommodations drawing visitors to Geographe Bay's calm waters and proximity to the Margaret River wine region.
